I have a couple of these that I got for like $6.00 ea. I bought them cause I thought they were sveni or another saxitillis. Didnt really care too much for them at first but they have grown on me and are starting to look real nice. This one lives in a 60g with a bigger c.johanna and a con. The bigger pike does not care much for the b.crawler, so the crawler pretty much lives under shelter, but shes fine after a month.
How big will my b.crawlers get and what is their temper like as large adults?? Are they easy to breed? Just curious. Thanks for all replies.

The belly crawlers I have kept seem to max out at about 7" for males and 5"-6" for females. I did see mention of a 10" male but I'd have to see it to believe it. I've found that as long as you have numerous hiding spots a pair can easily be kept in a 55 gallon tank. I tried in a 40 gallon once and it simply was not large enough. They aren't overly aggressive with other fish and in fact I kept a school of tiger barbs in with mine. Smaller fish are of course potential food.

In regards to breeding them, I never got mine to breed and I can't honestly say I've ever heard of anyone else breeding them either. Obviously they are a cave spawner. Lot's of high protein foods and good water quality will get them in condition. The area they are from does not have soft, acidic water so these would not be pre-requisites like with other Crenicichla.

Keep up posted as to your progress and let us know if they breed.

For sure.So if I dont pair them they should be cool in 30g tanks with a few other fish right?
