Has anyone kept these? If so what did you feed them? I don't have any, I'm just curious to their feeding habits, just how predatory they are, if they only accept live etc

Very predatory though I have heard they will take granulated food. Mine ate mainly guppies, mollies, and minnows, but also meal worms, crickets, glass shrimp, fairy shrimp, and small earthworms, and every once in a while each other.

Cheers guppy. They don't sell feeders here, in fact the nearest place that sells a goldfish or platy is an hour's drive away and they are 3 bucks each :D

But if they take mealworms I can do that, I might get some. How easy are they to breed?

Very easy, they will breed every 40 days or so and produce 30-100 1/2"-1" foung at a time, brine shrimp are great baby food. They need to be well fed or will immediatly eat the young, and they produce fewer. Water should be somewhat salted (2-4 tablespoons per 5 gallons) 78-82 F. They are quite hardy but that seems best for breeding. They only live 3-5 years but 2 males and 4 females will keep you in young forever if you keep a few to adulthood. Local minnows will also make good food as well. 1/4" crickets will be taken by the young within a day or so of birth.

They did have them at one of my shops, They were eating bloodworm so I guess they are not difficult to feed. The thing that put me off was I had read that the females grow substantially larger then the males making them potential food for the females.

If you let them get hungry the females will eat the males, fortunatly they store sperm so they can produce several broods after doing so and you can raise up another male or two.

8" max on the female, 6" on the male but 4"-5" is more common on the males and 7" for females. I haven't seen a lot of them so these were the ones I had in a 20g (long).
It is best to feed them everyday unless you want losses.
