I am just curious as to everyone who keeps different types of sand for their rays. What type do you keep? What do you like about it? What do you not like about it? I am concerned with size of the sand being to fine to not siphon good. I use red flint sand. I was thinking of using 3m.

People swear by 3m. I use pool filter sand with no issues, not to fine and heavy enough not to get sucked up by my filtration.

I use Caribsea Torpedo Beach. It doesn't compact so the substrate stays clean.

3M or pool filter sand are the way to go if u want substrate. both are basically the same. except if u wanna choose the color of ur substrate go with the 3M. 3M also has 2 grades the T and S grade. T grade is more gravel like and S is more sand like. both Ive heard are appropriate for rays. i use S grade but only because they didn't have the T grade. i like having the option of vacuuming the gravel with the T grade

if you squeaze the syphon tube and lesson the flow you can syphon clean your sand.. does take a bit of playing around to get it perfect... if not best bet just keep it welll stirred
