Benefits of Feeding Frozen Bloodworms?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No, it's not true.

Frozen BW typically consist of 80-90% water, so not only are you mostly paying for water, when your fish consume them they are mostly consuming water. IMO if you want to feed worms to your fish you're better off growing your own red worms.

Here's a typical analysis of frozen BW.

Guaranteed Analysis:
Crude Protein (min) 3.5%,
Crude Fat (min) 0.3%,
Crude Fiber (max) 0.7%,
Moisture (max) 93.5%

Fish love them & readily eat them because they taste good, but nutrient wise they don't offer a whole lot.

I used to feed these to my fish.. now I don't because it's worthless. The only fish that really get anything out of it are my small fish, like tetras, and bettas.. and even then it's about nothing.

Also, be careful many people have allergies to them. I used them and my eyes turned bright red for a week. I have also heard of people getting rashes from handling them. If you do use them, use gloves.

When people say bloodworms are 85% water, does that mean when the bloodworms are frozen or when thawed?

If it's frozen, I can understand how it can be mostly water, but when it's thawed out already, it seems hard to believe that it's all water.

you're about 85% water if you don't count you're bone, which worms don't have.

My fish enjoy them, they aren't actively harmful, and they've been good for getting new fish to start eating (especially live bloodworms; they help get Discus in breeding condition pretty quickly for being mostly water), so I feed them as a treat.

I've used to feed my discus blood worms, just to get them to eat. But after awhile, I've trained them to eat flakes, pellets, and homemade beefheart mix. Oh and massivores, lolz To be honest with you, the worms don't really provide a balanced diet for your fishes, and also now a days people get allergic reaction to them. Last but not least, they can be quite costly in the long run. ;)

^ agree
