Hey everyone. I have a 20 gallon tank and moved the fish into another tank 3 days ago and was wondering if the bacterial is dead and I will have to cycle again. The filter is off, the heater is off and the air pump is off. It still has the same substrate. I think I already know that I will have to re-cycle but I want to know any opinions. Thanks, Ed.

Listen to strollo22. He helped me out a lot with my tank :D

Everything stayed under water? If so, turn it all back on, do a big water change and stock it. You'll be fine. I don't even give much a passing thought to cycling these days...and set my new tanks up with all new stuff and some used filter media. For quarantine, fry tanks, etc, I just take a couple big rocks out of a well established tank and put them in. For a ten gallon tank a couple fist sized rocks hold more than enough bacteria to get a dry sponge filter going.

The bacteria starts to die off after about 12 hours without O2. Better off cleaning filter media and reseeding before just stocking.
