  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. How long is the season?

That's a freakin awesome video of what you do!!

The head cutting and the belly cutting made me a little squeemish.. but we all gotta eat..

Brings back memories... I spent 6 weeks on a longliner in 2008. I was one of the "bad guys" though, an Observer...

Dutch Harbor's a crazy little town. Liked Kodiak as well.

Yeah I know this video is a little graphic, I made it mostly for our crew to show their famiies- thanks if you liked it!

What Longliner? there are only so many of us! did you work for AOI or saltwater?

You know, the name of the boat is escaping me at the moment... Let me think about it and see if I can remember.

I worked for Saltwater.

It was a rough trip, because they thought it would only be 2-3 weeks, max, and it ended up being 6 weeks because of bad fishing and LOTS of killer whales following us around.

You should try doing it in person. Or cutting open the braincase to find the otoliths (earbones), which are little white disks swimming around in some nasty gel-like goo next to the brain...

You get over stuff like that really quick on the boats. :)

There were only 36 longliners then and about ten of them did black cod and turbot in the Bering sea/ Aleutian Islands where you got whaled.
I'm second in command on the Alaska Mist right now we use AOI. We have been known to get whaled on from time to time. You probably worked on a "clipper" boat or one of the blue north boats.

Small world!
ps Atleast half the observers I know are really cool people..
