I've used Algae fix before and no problems.. I have this Spotted eel now and well.. I'm not going to use algaefix anymore because I'm simply scared it might hurt him. Silly? I doubt it after reading two hours of algae fix horror stories.

Lemme ask you this. I have some redish brown algae growing on things in my tank(I know it's because of the window light) Does Dark treatment really work to kill the algae.. does anybody have any other suggestions?

Thanks
Good fish lovin to you all.

You're gonna have to describe the algae better than that. Sounds like either brown algae or black beard algae... Two very different things. Got a pic?
Oh, don't use algae-fix or any other "algae treatments."

i would do it the old fashion way get a algae scraper or magnet they have them at every pet store that way you aren't putting those chemicals in your tank.

Brown algae is actually treated with MORE light, and is a sign of high nitrates and possibly high silicates. Is the tank new? It's pretty much unavoidable in new tanks IME and goes away in time with maintenance. Otocinclus catfish will eat it.

x2 more or less.. always get a brown algae spike if I get lax on a water change.. try doing a few more water changes to help combat it.. or you'll end up scrapeing it every few days. Fix the problem.. not the symptom. algae eaters may help but be careful of what type you go with haveing an eel in the tank. as plecos particularly commons and some of the more carnivorous species will be able to do alot of damage to an eel. I would suggets a panque if you look into an algae eater.
