I know algae eaters don't CLEAN the tank, but they do eat algae and poop it out, and I prefer to vacuum poop, which I do every other day and takes less than 5 minutes, than scraping algae off all 5 sides of a bare bottom (tiled) tank.

That being said, I know my tank size isn't ideal, but is there any medium to big sized algae eaters I can get with a tiled tank and 0 decor.

Maybe a bristlenose pleco or big nerite snails could do the trick. With that oscar though your choices will be limited in a 55 even with a ton of water changes. How big is the oscar? Remember it will eat anything that can fit in it's mouth.

If you had more decor I would suggest siamese algae eaters, Crossocheilus siamensis(not chinese algae eaters). You could get a school of about 4 or 5 of them, and hopefully they would be fast enough to avoid the oscar. Although I've never really seen mine clean just straight off the glass.

My Oscar is legitimately the nicest or laziest Oscar ever, and never tries to eat other fish no matter how small.

an LFS near me has a chinese algae eater that is pretty huge, like 7 inches and fat for 29 bucks. Thinking about picking him up

I had quite a few big apple snails in with my Oscars for a while. Emphasis on had. The Oscars took an interest in the snails and carried them around the tank a bit playing keep away from each other. Eventually they killed all of my snails.
My Oscars didn't eat the Convict juvies that I put in their tank as feeders either. Now they work great as cleaners of the mealtime mess that the Oscars make.
