I have a couple of tanks as you can see from my signature, but what i need to know is what are the best algae eating plecos? I absolutely do not want a chinese algae eater and my water temp will be around 80 so no cold water plecos. Thanks for help in advance...I tried looking this up in the search bar but couldn't really find what i was looking for, Thanks again.

bristlenose are supposed to be good but are a little small! and your fish may try to eat them if the pleco isnt big enough and yours are too big! then the fishthat tried to eat will die!

so probably not the bristlenose! maybe for the breeding servums!

but the bristlenose are peaceful so i dont kno if theyd be beaten abdly by the breeding pair!?

i love royals too but do they eat much algae or just wood?

Ancistrus some panaques (esp. royals) and Chaetastoma would be best. However, in your tanks, Ancistrus and Chaetastoma would be too small, in general plecos and rays dont go well together either. It would also depend on the type of algae you have. Theres no way you can't find some stuff about algae eating plecos, its the most commonly question asked about them lol.

I've said it many times before, only buy a pleco because you want it, they aren't in any way clean up crew, no fish does the work for you. Have you tried everything else to reduce algae, e.g. water quality (reducing nitrates), less light (esp. sunlight) hitting the tank. I get no algae mainly because i keep the water quality so not to promote algae growth and use little light. It is not guaranteed any individual will eat algae also if fed well. Plecos produce nitrates enhancing algae growth if anything. An algae scraper is the number one best solution you'll get.

They need wood in their diet. A lot eat algae, some don't though. They add a lot of waste to the water though. Nice plecs though.

Instead of a pleco either consider snails or a magfloat/algae scraper/ razor blade. Snails will do a decent job of some alga, but depending on the type, you may be up the creek.
