what is a good beginner shark i have a 75 that i was thinking of putting one or two shark pups in i am going to get a larger tank when they get older i like the zebra bullhead and port jackson but i know bamboos are easier to take care of which would you do

I would go with only one bamboo shark, even if you were to upgrade. I would say 90 to 125 should be the minimum for one bamboo shark. They are far too intelligent and interactive a creature to skimp on.

Okay, one, how large are you planning for the next tank to be?And how much experience do you have with saltwater?I would reccomend 1-2 years before trying sharks, because they are not forgiving species.By no means am i trying to burst your bubble, but port jacksons and zebra bullheads need tanks over 3000 gallons. And zebra bullheads are almost unheard of.If you really like bullheads,go with horn sharks. They need tanks of 300 gallons though and need temps from 54-68 degrees, requiring good chiller. But before anyone cn answer fully, what size tank would you move them into?

Yea a beginner shark is a rather funny thought because like nano said, you need to have a lot of experience and knowledge (not to mention cash) to keep sharks.

A brown banded bamboo will be your best choice if you can fill the requirements for its needs. Good Luck

i have been keeping fish for about 10 years and i have done saltwater for about 2 to 3 years i have done a ton of research i know most websites say they need a tank of about 180gal but i plan on either building a large tank or buying a custom tank of about 6'by6'

a 6x6' tank? :bs:

ya know how many thousands of dollars that would be? :nilly::nilly:

Actually - I wouldn't consider the Brown banded Bamboo to be the best beginner species of shark for the following reasons - this species can and will reach about 40" long - if they make it to become fully mature.

The best species of sharks for home aquaria is generally species that stay 37"(94 cm) long or less. And the best family of sharks to choose from for someone looking for a good "beginner" species is the family Hemiscyllidae (Epaulettes & Bamboo sharks).

do you know where i can find an epaulette in jersey or cheap on the internet

Sharkraycentral.com has some great suppliers.

Just another side note: Most places list incorrect tank requirements for keeping sharks.
