Out Back In The Woods!
I kno this threads has prob already been beat to death but like other people expirence & opnions with Bio-Media... lookin for Bio-Media to go into my 350Gal Sump for my 800Gal indoor pond almost ready for fishless cycling w/ media from a cycled tanked already... what is the perfered Bio-Media that everyone is using with great results??? I was leaning toward SeaChems Pond Matrix, then Bio-Glass next in-line, not really worried about Nitrates & WC's due to using 8 Stage RO/DI System for a Continous WC in the sump have an over-flow in the same chamber as the return pump for excess water to exit from the sump & tank... just looking for a Bio-Media that will provide massive ammount of BB in the sump have 4 Catfish over 3ft goining into this Pond so need really good amount of BB for these Big Cats... any reccomendation on a product that does such requirements on the amount of quanity of BB please fell free to post the Brand and where u purchased it..

Thanks For the Info and website for the media looking into the Foam Media for my 3000Gal Indoor Pond in my Shop outside but not gonna spend that kind money on my 800Gal not this go round.... any other altrenative Bio-Media still leaning toward the Pond Matrix w/ 1 chamber of nothing but Pot scrubbies Full of BB from a Cycled Tank to get the BB started on the Pond Matrix or Bio-Media that i choose based on reccomendation & price dont wanna get 2 outragous wife is ready to kill me as is.. she told me $300 this month for fish... and Bio-Media is all im lacking...

Being that im using Pot Scrubbies in the First Chamber Which already Has BB on the Scrubbies Would it make a Difference if i put 2 12" air stones under the scrubbies had the guy @ the LFS said that air from the air stones knocks off the old BB so the New BB can thrive in the scrubbies sorta like k1 kaldness media.... is this true or not? Does the Air stone do anything to help Benefit the BB or just a waste of Money??

For outdoor pond? Maybe I missed that...

I use a mesh laundry bag filled with rings from an old and big Tetra bio filter I had at my old house now in my skimmer

I love these things because they are huge with big open cells you could push a zippo through, which is important in outdoor filters that get a month's worth of aquarium debris in a day.

I'm iffy on scrubber pads. I can see how they are super effective in aquariums, but I would think they are too closed cell in pond or messy eater tanks. Plus, they are actually one of the most expensive ideas. The cheapest I've seen them is 2 for $1 plus .08 NYS tax. For me to completely fill my bio stage in my sump would be between $40-$50 of scrubbers. I can buy more bio balls than that.

My favorite DIY pond bio filter media besides tetra's bio rings, which I can't find for sale, is gravel (which can clog). Fortunately, I have a garbage bag filled with extra tetra rings that won't fit now for my next projects.

My aquarium sump bio media is every plastic plant I've bought at joann's and michael's stuffed in the chamber. Plus laundry bags of lava rock and ceramic rings to keep live for new setups.

Its gonna Be a indoor pond gonna use the scrubbies due to they already have BB to transfer to other newer media may remove them later on... i can get 8 scrubbies for $1 at the local DG Store here in town... im open to all Bio-Media opnion just post what has worked for me in the past and kno it relativly speeds up cycling if u seed a new tank w/ media from a seeded tank already up & running... hince why im looking for new media for a new tank... i can get 20L of Pond Matrix for $110 shipped 2L=200Gal so 20L=2000Gal of media got a huge chamber and was gonna purchase 40L of pond Matrix unless someone has a better media that would have more Surface Area than Pond Matrix around the same price...

IME api Chem stars are awesome and last forever just a little pricey.
