What is the best biological media (bought or DIY) in your experience? I use a multitude of different medias, here is a list of mine:
Bio-Balls
Ceramic rings and cylinders
Scrubbies
Coarse sponge
Bio-wheels
K1
Helix
Bio-home (four different types)
Lava rock
Pumice stone

What are your favorites and which is the best to use?

still plants, you may get some ideas regarding what I'm talkin about here. You still could have plants (not inside tho) on a tank.

Oh okay, pothos are great but they themselves cannot keep a bio load of an aquarium in check. It would take a lot (covering most of the tank) of them to do that. But I see where you're going with that with the self sustained aquarium for sure, would be awesome to get something like that rolling!!!

Yep typically you need to establish them first, It'll took months for all the set up to get a fairly good amount of plant back ups, CO2 stuff and lights, t5 or LED. More over for the synthetically products, I go for k1, and the rotation stuff, I really don't mind noise.
