Was wondering what you guys feed you black rays, pups, adults im waiting to hopefully obtain a wonderful pair of BD pup soon from (DR) and was wondering whats the best diet to get the fastest growth and color also only one pair, thats all i can afford and house on my budget. Seems pellets, and blackworms arent good on bd, and leo coloring on white spots, maybe smelt and nightcrawler? Experienced keepers and Vets please advise thanks

I feed by black rays the same as the rest of my rays, about 50% tilapia and 50% nightcrawlers, with the occasional treat of some silversides instead of tilapia. Everyone is nice and healthy, patterns look great.

For cheap nightcrawlers try going to any local bait stores and see if you can't talk them into giving you there supplier, or see about prepaid bulk orders. I get my canadian nightcrawlers from a wholesaler in Idaho, $25 per 500 nightcrawlers plus overnight shipping by courier which is only $30 for 2000 worms.

I feed all my rays market shrimp, lake smelts and ocassionally night crawlers. Some of my rays have really bright white spots, some not so white, and some have blacker bodies than others - All getting the same food. I had one female Leo that had off white color spots and was thinking that the shrimp were affecting her spot color so I fed her smelts exclusively to see if her spots would "whiten" up. They did not. I have another female with almost irridescent white spots eating shrimp and her spot color hasn't changed. I think it all comes down to genetics.

well thanks for the input, but alot of my brodders from over seas, say pellets, and black worms make spots orange, off white colors and smelt, nightcrawler and and live fish keep spots bright white

Whole frozen smelt, red earthworms from -rainbow worms, and bloodworms. I just started adding frozen blackworms-not as good as the live ones but better than nuttin.

pellets are the best they have everything in them just like dry dog food

keeping the water clean is a very important part of ray keeping smelt whit bait sprats beefheart are just to messy
