I have CA and SA cichlids, such as convicts, GT's, firemouth, oscars and a RD. I am wondering what the best bottom feeder would be to keep my sand clean. I have a L014 Plec, but he is more of a show piece than a cleaner.
Before anyone recomends it, i dont like clown loaches. Any help would be greatly.appreciated.

It's the wrong biotope, and if you're ocd like me, that will bother the hell out of you, but I've heard syno cats do well with cichlids. They're from the african lake areas IIRC. I've not tried them, but I've tried rubber nose plecos and khuli loaches (needed something small) but all have been harassed (the rubbers have been killed over night, happened twice) badly by my firemouths. The khulis had to be moved to another tank with torn up fins. Don't know about the burmese loaches, though.

So your looking for an algae eater? a bottom dweller? I'd say bristlenose plecos either way. They're small armored and the best algae cleaner that i know of. If your goin for somethin besides a pleco, try a school of cory cats. They too are small, armored and peacful so they can be kept with anything from community fish to larger fish.

What are the sizes of the cichlids now?

4 line pimodella cats? I know they aren't armored but they are fairly active and are fun to watch and get to be about 6". If not, I have an orange seam pleco who doesn't get bothered at all by my cichlids, just be prepared for him to poop a LOT

Corys with RD's and Oscars? you must be mad, that will end up with a dead Cichlid with a Cory stuck in its throat.

I am after a bottom feeder as appose to an algae eater, something to keep my sand free from uneaten food. I clean the algae from my glass myself and i like it on the rocks and wood. I already have a plec and i wouldnt consider another one unlessit was an L number. I personally dont like BN plecs or similar. I had considered synos but i am similar to you, i like fish from similar areas, i knkw my fish come from different areas but it has a theme. Cory cats would be good for a day or two, if that.

haha, yeah your right. that was more for the non amphilophus, though if the oscar was young enough when you added the cories, i think they'd be fine. I guess i'm assuming that not all of these cichlids are in the same tank?
