I have a Rena Filstar XP3 right now that I got from my buddy.. It hasn't been used in 2 years until I set it up today.. It leaks pretty bad and It's not a case of shot o-rings..

Any idea on what the ideal canister filter would be for a 120g (48in x 24in x 25in)

I'm thinking possibly an Eheim?

after some research, now I'm leaning towards a fluval fx5... anybody have any opinions? pros, cons?

I'd go FX5. I had one on my 90 gallon for a while and it works perfectly on a four foot tank. Only other canister I'd consider is a big eheim, which will cost you twice as much.

I personally love my Magnum 350's. They're cheap to buy and easy to maintain. Never had any issues with any of my 3. It's a matter of preference really, proper maintenance is key.

my ex girlfriend has a magnum 350.. its been absolutely nothing but trouble.. especially since every time it breaks down or clogs, she calls me to fix it... i think i'm gooing to go with the fx5.. its going for $211.99 brand new on amazon... for that gph, no other company can beat that price
