i have always been a sump guy... i can build any sump set up no prob. but i know nothing about canister filters....
im currently building a 280 gallon plywood tank. its going to be on the main floor so i want to run 2 canister filters but i donteven know where to start looking? i have heard about renas and fx5? this tank is going to house rays and discus. so it will need to have good bio in it. and the reason i want to run 2 filters is because the footprint ofthe tank will be 5x3 so i would like to run one of both sides

My Rena XP3 was a nice size for my 110g tank when I ran it with another canister. An XP4 isn't that much bigger than an XP3 and I think it is too small for a 280g tank.

I think your choices are FX5 or a Eheim 2060 if you have to go with a canister. I will never go back to cans now that I use sumps.

If you do decide to go with a canister, the FX5 is the best bang for the buck. It contains a huge amount of space to house lots of media. I have one running on a 210 gallon heavily stocked Frontosa tank with no issues.

Its like $250 on Amazon these days new.
