Wondering what would be the best canister filter for a 150g tank, was looking to put one Hystrix ray(Planing on upgrading). Reason why would help, thanks.

This will be based mostly on personal opinion. I myself use the rena xp3 filters. I would recommend going with two of them. More advantages to having two smaller cannister over a single large one.

i have Fx5's and Rena 3's and both are good .. but i like the Fx5 because there is just so much more flow and bio media ... but the renas are just used to buff and filter crap out of the tank .. the Fx5's are used to hold the bio load

Why is that an advantage, and how big is the tank you are using both of those on. Thanks.

im interested in this post, as im kinda at aloss of what filter to get. i wanted fx5, but the media capacity seems so small

I am stuck between the Eheim and Fluval Fx5. Just wanted to hear everyones opinion and see what they thinks the best for a 150g, and what they prefer.

I have been using 2 Rena Xp 3's for about 3 years now. They have done a great job. I have one set up as Bio and one as mechanical. (125 gallon)

I have never had a canister filter and think I need one for my 150g. So, what is the difference between mechanical and Bio. Also do you think Rena Xp3's could handle a 150g? I have a Rena for my 55g but it is not a canister and was rather expensive.

Fx5's run about $200 on ebay new .. and then you need another $100 to fill it with media .. if you buy everything online .. still not as much as the eheims's
