So I am going to be setting up my new tank which is approx 50 gallons. The footprint is 3 foot long x 1' wide (front to back) x 2' deep (top to bottom). I am planning on keeping a single red wolf fish (erythrinus) in that tank by itself (as discussed on a previous thread). Besides those requirements the most important thing to me is that its QUIET. I want the tank in my room, but if its gonna fly it has to be as quiet as possible. What filter do you guys recommend for your experiences? I am leaning more towards canister since I have a Filstar 3 on my other tank but if theres a canister or non-canister filter you know of please let me know! Thank you guys as always.

2217 is my recommendation. They run so quietly you sometimes have to touch them to feel if they are running. Plus you can expect to get well over 10-20 years of service out of them.

Really either 2215 or 2217 will be fine, a single wolf fish in a 50 isn't gonna foul the water that bad. If you can get a 2215 used cheap, i'd take it and roll on, if not find a good 2217 and have the cleanest 50 gallon on record

and to answer the question above 2215 is rated for 95 gallon tanks

2217 rated for 160 gallon tanks

Just saw an Eheim 2 professional filter for 75 bucks in my area on craigslist. What do you guys think? Would it be too much for my tank? Probably too noisey?

The pro 2 would be great, if you can get one for 75 with media working well that's a solid deal in my book. Keep looking stuff pops up all the time.

The pro models tend to leak from the 0 ring on the primer so i'd check that for sure, and the classics are almost never an issue.
