I have a festae pair and while they are beautiful fish I would like to help them reach full potential. Does anyone have any ideas of some of the best color foods and maybe have used them. Obviously leaning towards the red side. thanks

Krill is imo the best natural food for great color along with frequent water changes. Something I have been very successful with.

Although you can't go wrong with either NLS or Hikari Gold, pristine water will ultimately dictate the health/color of the fish. My Cichlids always display the best coloration after large water changes, as opposed to after eating mouthfuls of food.

Well a dark background and substrate will help, as well as pristine water. A good quality food like nls will work well. If you're not worried about side effects (there may be none) something like grand sumo red really will bring the reds out to a maximum level. I can't recall the ingredient it contains that does it...begins with an a ...lol

I agree krill is the best imo as well. However if your looking for just a pellet then I like to use NLS. It has given the best results food wise with my fish.

NLS makes a pellet called Ultra Red. I've not tried it but it's probably worth a look

Genetics are going to play the biggest part of any fishes color. Next you'll need a proper diet followed by a strict WC routine. Everyone has their opinions on specific foods.. But I've tried them all and I haven't found one that stands out above the rest... Not to mention your fishes likes or dislikes. So I've bought a variety from kensfish.com, nls, hikari, southern delight, and an assortment of flakes. I combine the pellets into containers according to sizes of my fish. Small, med, and large pellets. Then feed 2-3 times a day for smaller fish and 2x for large fish. Then in the evening after second feeding I toss in some frozen krill and other goodies to help condition for spawning or growth boost..

Not contradicting what anyone else has said but i notice they look better with less food. I started feeding my semi-adult fish less (every other day sometimes 3 days no feeding) that and as another member said frequent wc's.

Switched from hikari to omega one to nls and notice no dofference. I do prefer nls though

My vote for best color enhancing food is HBH brand food.
