I'm trying to decide on getting black sand, blackish purpleish gravel or white sand, for my soon to be 55 gallon electric yellow colony tank.
I hear that crushed coral is good for them, (like it alkalines the tank) But i also think a dark sand or gravel would look better... you know, makes them pop more.

I'm not sure what to do, so im open to opinions, preferably with pics, so i can see electrics with white and dark substrate :)

Yeah it has a black background. Any recommendations on what kind of sand and where to get it? And also, Where would i get something like black lava rock...?

Like everyone says go with black. It tends to draw in more color from the cichlids & makes them look really nice.

Becareful with all black. It can also muddy the color of the fish... They will be darker than on a lighter color sand. I have both types of setups. I have found that light colored pool filter sand works best.

I concur, go with a light colored pool sand.

Oh cmon, Everybodys saying the exact opposite of the other ones... Can someone show me some pics so i can compare?

Ok so if i went with the black sand, what would be the best looking/cheapest thing to get?

And if i went with white, what kind? like pool filter? orr.... crushed coral? And where could i purchase it?

Thanks ahead of time.
