I have a breeding pair of Jack dempseys and have been feeding them alot to try and get them to breed again. I was feeding them mostly just Hikari gold cichlid pellets but it doesnt seem to be doing anything for them breeding wise. I also would feed them market shrimp once a week. I just started feeding them the shrimp 2-3 times a day and was wondering if there are any health issues with this? Should i vary the diet and feed other frozen foods as well, or can i just feed shrimp along with hikari gold?

Try and throw some veggie pellets in the mix as well. Feed a vary diet.

I use live Superworms for conditioning. Also live earthworms and red worms.

Sometimes I'll use an eggcrate divider for a pair if the male is getting 90% of the food. They'll often breed through the divider.

I'd say that water changes/water quality are more important than super-conditioning. Happy cichlids will breed. Throw in an extra water change or three and see if that works.

Sounds good, my female is actually the one that gets all the food! My male doesnt come out during the day. My water quality is very good. These two dont leave eachothers side, so maybe the divider trick will definitly work! I think i need to do something to get them excited! At one point i put a clear divider in the tank and had two breeding pairs in the tank. They would not stop trying to fight through the divider and then about a week later both pairs layed eggs. The only problem was that both pairs layed eggs right now to the divider and then ate them as they felt threatened by the other pair! Ill try the divider trick and hopefully it should work!
