hey, up until now ive used marineland stealth pro 300 watt for my 90 gallon piranha tank, however they run into the damn thing, alot... this morning i found my tank at 72 degrees, 8 lower than normal, with the heater light on, but no heater coming from it. I think they finally did the pathetic thing in. What GOOD heater can I buy that will resist the battering of a piranha, and will heat my tank properly with only 1 heater. thanks in advance

Ive had good luck with the Via Aqua titaniums that have the external controller. Never had one boil a tank, but have had them just quit heating after a couple years. If you wanna go pro, look into blue line or similar titanium heating elements that have no controller, and use a Ranco external controler to power them with. www.etcsupply.com I use one of those units and it is awesome. You can set the temp to whatever you like, put the temp probe in the tank, and the device will cycle the attached power strip on and off at your desired setting, heat or cool. You can also set the variance in degrees from 1 degree to whatever. Meaning for example if you want the tank to run at 80, and you set the variance to 2 degrees, once the tank reaches 80 it will shut down the heaters and they wont kick back on untill it drops to 78. I wouldnt heat a tank any other way.

E300s are my fav. Ive got 3 in my basement pond. I fear i need a fourth.

I also vote for titanium on a controller. I however used the industrial Rancho controller sold by www.jehmco.com

my 1st 500 via aqua titanium heater died on my less than a year, its on but temp never went above 72F, had two stealth hears 200W worked great then one went crazy and heated my tank to 99F (at lease thats max display on my digital thermometer) water was warm as hell tho like a hot bath. then they had the recall so i returned the working one as well.
got 3 cheap Jebo 300W heaters off ebay and its been working great for almost 2 years straight now.

ok thanks for the info guys. im going fish supply shopping tonight and ill see what I can find. I need something with a guard tho, my piranha are like tanks
