Hey, so i realize this isnt an aquaponics rich site, but I have seen it mentioned on here, mostly by Australians unfortunately.. Im making a move from seattle to alaska and plan on starting up my own aquaponics system indoor..now, originally i wanted to stick Pacu in there (using a 4x4x4 plastic cube) as i figured they grow quite steadily and i continuously hear how tasty they are.
Now my dilemna comes in that I do not want to heat this tank, Im trying to save money not spend it all on heating so I figure I'll be looking for something that has a fast grow rate, is tasty and does well in 65~ish degree water (the lights may end up heating the water further and I will be keeping it somewhat close to my future boiler system so it may rise a little to low 70's if im lucky).

So basically im looking for the best suggestions and since it seems most the aqua guys know more about plants this seems like the better place.
Are trout fingerlings my only option really?
thanks for any help

pacu, catfish species, tilapia and even trout can be raised in the 60s

tilapia is used most, quick growth off of scraps. trout take a while before you can harvest. and can be tough to keep.

thats good news to hear Pacu do well in that low of temperature, I wasnt sure. I was under the impression tilapia needed 80+ degree water to do best and wasnt sure how difficult bluegill would be to procure on a semi regular basis..
didnt think of cats.
pacu and channel cats for the bottom? could be a pretty cool mix
