ill be setting up a 125 gal piranha tank in a few weeks and i was wandering what you guys and girls think would be the best filter set up for it
right now all i know that iam putting in it is black gravel for the base but dont know what else i want to do to it yet any ideas let me know and i will keep you all posted on with pic on my progress :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

I like wet dry filters however they are costly. Bio balls are really good biological filters! and you can put almost any other type of media you want.

Whats your budget? When you say your setting up a "piranha" tank, are you going to be stocking pygos? Or a single serra? If pygos, then how many are you planning on getting and what kind?

For general... I would get a FX5 AND either a AC110 or Emp400 (or two if you are going to be heavily stocked. My 125 is going to have a FX5 and Emp400.

Depending on what you are putting in your tank. let start with pygo.

pygo will be in group assume you will put in some what arouond 4-6 in there. Piranha are messy eater and produce a lot of waste. so if money is not an issue for you then go with as much filtration as you can. piranha like lots of current, however you want to leave a dead spot for them to rest.

if you going to single Serra. don't need much filter, but weekly water change and vacuum gravel is a must.

well years ago i had rbs and i loved them so thats what iam going with again i found a few places on the net that sell them so iam going to order over the net the one place i have found they sell 12 for 50 bucks so i may get them and i know a few ppl that would like them but dont want little ones so i said ill get them and in a few months ill resale them and make some of my money back
and for the other question about how much i have to spend i would say around 200 or so not really alot but it should be enough i hope
last time i had them i had a 55 and i had 2 whispers on it and that seemed to work good but then i didnt know much about fish

For my 125 with two P. piraya, one P caribe, and one P. natt all around 8" I had two Emperor biowheel 350s, one Rena XP3, and a DIY W/D made out of a 29gallon fish tank doing around 900GPH. I also had two Marineland 1140s that each blew 300GPH with sponges attached for added current and extra filtraion.
