for my Channa Micropeltes tank, man, these fish crap soo much.
i'm the kind of guy that can handle a not so perfect tank, but man, it craps soo much, and i dont feel the filter system i have is optimal.

this is what i have currently:

* tank: 30x16x19 approx
* filters: 2x internal fliters that states 2400L/H
the filter simple compartments holds 'cotton wool', the white stuff. it has a 2 compartments for this, but the bottom one usually doesnt collect much. i replace the filter wool about 2wice a month, and the top one, closest to the impeller comes out filthy.

my main issue is that there is still too much crap on the bottom.

* am i just not vacuuming enough?

any feedback would be great.
if you have the time, a critique of my setup would be appreciated.
please be honest, i can take it.

thanks.

Well if you have 4800L/h of filtration i think that is PLENTY!
lol, thats good filtration, i guess you just have to vaccuum the poo more haha
What are you feeding him? if you change the colour of the food the poo might not be so noticeable? and btw, nice tank, i like the plants, what are they? cheers!
Actually, the filter is really close to the front, could you move it back a bit?

lol, i think someone may have already trold you this before but.....i'd be upgrading that tank fairly soon k?
Filtration is easily good enough for a 4 foot tank maybe even a thin 5 foot but yeah nice tank anyways congrats!@

Yeah, thats enough filtration for the tank you have... just vacuum more.

Yea any filter thats going to move and suck up giant turds is will suck up the fish too.big fish require gravel vaccing. looks like you tank is pretty turbulent already

thanks for the feedback.

i was wanting more turbulance because i also got a mosquito problem.
it's been just a few days since my last water change, and the poop machine is running high in production. i guess i need to quit relaxing and watching my fish, and start actually picking up of it too.

the plants? not quite sure... i'll have to look em up.
i feed the guy live nile tilapia.

thanks again.

Howdy,

If I interpret that right, the fish poop gets sucked right thru the first layer of filter media and then settles in the second layer. That can have only one reason, which also is your problem: You have too much turnover! Your flow rate is too high to sufficiently serve as filter current. Basically, the poop gets sucked in, runs thru the filter, and then re-enters the tank. Reduce the flow rate and see what happens.

HK,

thanks for your feedback.

thats a very interesting point. i think it might be possible. but, the poop is still intact, form, shape, plumpness. i'll stop now.

i see what your saying, but do you think the poop would still keep it's natural form after being run through 2 chambers of filter? my micorpeltes is hitting the 12" mark, and those are monster turds.

but, i'm gonna try it.. thanks!

Upgrade your filter to an overhead one. The media space on internal filters are too small to effectively do the job of cleaning when coupled with such high powerd pumps.
