Hello all, I have a 125 that is slightly under filtered and I'm looking to either add 1-2 filters. The openings in the back prevent me from having HOB filters for larger gallonage tanks because they are small. What kind of canister filter(s) would be good for me or how complicated would it be to set up a sump. It's stocked with moderate sized Central American cichlids. Thanks!

I've been running a fx5 on my 125' for 5 years now and has worked great. I'm going to run 2 on it when it goes to a discus tank just because I have 2. They have the fx6 now it's supposed to be a little better

I run a Eheim 2262 on mine. It's not a sump, but it's given me no trouble for 3 years.

If you're on a budget get these:
Sunsun 304B - this canister will hold a ton of bio media
Odyssea 700CFS - this canister will move a lot of water and will keep that tank clear
Both of these canisters will cost you well under $200 including shipping!

Yes, I own multiple units of both brands and been using them for 2.5 years now.

I run an FX6 on my 100g and it does a good job.
It's very good at keeping debris off the bottom of the tank. I used to vacuum the sand twice a week before i got this filter and i haven't done it once in the 2 months its been setup.

I had an fx6 on my 150 with an ac110 and didnt like the fx6 and swapped it out for an eheim 2262. Alsoremoved the ac110 Imo 2262 alone will handle your 125. Your stocking would dictate how much filtration you actually need. If i had to buy another can i would try the ones xraycer xraycer mentioned hes been talking them up for a while now

That being said you mention a sump. I just built my first sump wasnt hard at all other members on the forum will walk you through it. Im hooked and will never buy a canister again sump would be my first choice for your tank

Filtrations doesn't have to have to be expensive to be effective. Sure, if you want to spend 3X the money on name brands, go for it, but if you want to save a big chunk of cash, I would like to help steer those people in that direction. Also, I would only recommend products I have first hand experience with, not just things based upon hearsay. Simply, I'm just trying to help out my fellow fishkeepers.....I have zero ulterior motives.

I trust your opinions completely dude plus 2.5 years and no issues is good in my book. If how i worded it sound like i was being sarcastic that was not my intent. I really would try one of them if i had to buy a can based on your comments.

Nah, I didn't take your post as a "back-handed complement" at all, Jaws. I'm just clarifying my position as to why I always recommend these 2 brands :)
