Hello, I have a 200litre tank and I am new to fishkeeping. I would like to know which is the best external filter for goldfish? I am toying between the Tetratec and Eheim. However, the choice of Eheim confuses me since there are so many. I would also like to stock the tank so the filter would also need to keep the plants alive.

I would say if you can order AquaClear's hob's filters, AC110's are their most powerful units. I have 2 running at same time in my 72gal/280L tank & I use AC70 for my 20gal/80L tank. many members like the AC's (but then again many others like canisters).

some say buy filters that are twice your tank size. I run 2 not only for better cleaning but also I can clean one & let the other still run with the good bio in place.

good luck! happy fishing!

are these filters better than the Eheim and Tetratec filters

Eheim 2217. Best one out there for your size tank.

ive used nothing but eheim and AC's

i would recommend hang on the back type power filter. there easy to work with even for a newby. also i heard people recommend canisters for oxygen hungry fish like goldfish, because the bacteria must directly from the water(i guess hob are only a little better at this).

but it really wont matter what you get if you do two things, as most goldfish arent demanding.
1. make sure its rated for a little more then your tanks size.
2. make sure its constructed reliably, no funny noises, doesnt clog easily, lasts a long time.

one more thing pace yourself with stocking, as goldfish do get huge so stock with that in mind.
