Both if you can't use a W/D. Cichlids are really great waste generators. Is it a BB tank? Maybe a power head to keep things stirred up if they are the petite variety(if so what are they doing here...j/k).

How's the water chemistry holding out?

i belive the chemistry is grest because i do 50% waterchanges once a week and add about 5 teaspoons of salt.Yhe tank is a 75 and only has one reddevil.

You would be fine with a HOB filter. The bio-whell filters by marineland are a great choice, plus your going to get more air to water contact with them as well. While the Aqua Clear filters won't offer this I feel they are more stronger in water movement. The 50% water changes weekly are mandatory.
