Medway Me.
I want to get a tank for a motoro ray this summer, I was thinking of getting an Emporer 400, cause I am used to power filters, but I wanted to ask what is the best filter overall for a ray, I am asking for spacific brands and some links would be nice. Also money is an issue, I am just barely finding money for the tank and the fish. around $50 is all I hope to spend. Some advise in filter media would be very helpfull too! Your help is appreciated!

If $50 is all you can muster for filtration, then you might want to rethink a ray. They are expensive to feed and maintain.

To get a ray, you need a pretty decent size tank. An emperor 400 isnt sufficient for a 100+ gallon. I would make a diy w/d and look for things around the house. might be over $50 though.

wow i didnt realize that a ray would be so expensive, i will probably have to save some more money before I get it. However I would still like some help in choosing a filter, I dont care about the price now I just need some suggestions. Thanks mfk!

I just read the sticky about the diy wet/dry, and I think i can convert my old 55 gal into one of those, would that be good enough? oh and I didnt get an aquarium yet, im still looking! It will be a while before I am ready for the actual fish.

I commend you on doing the research, and making sure that you have the proper housing before you get the ray. :clap :clap :clap

I recommend that you figure out the tank size first, and then do the W/D with 2 AC110s on it with 2 sponges and 1 biomax in each one.
