hi all i need a little help on setting up a 55 gal ciclid tank with 15 cichlids( non tank busters). i have a ehiem ecco canister for a 60 gallon but dont think it will be enough filtration. Any thoughts on filter overkill?

and what is the ac 110 every one is talking about?
thx in advance.

Filter overkill?? No such thing as that on this website. The AC 110 is the Aquaclear 110 hang on back filter, which personally I feel are the best HOB's. Since you already have a canister, I'd recommend getting on AC110 and running the canister filter. I'm running a AC 70 and a XP3 on mines and my water is crystal clear. Before I came on this website, I was only running the AC70, but after reading on here for a few days I came to the conclusion that I should add more. With 15 cichlids of any kind (except fry) your bioload must be through the roof in the 55G.

Quite untrue. You could easily have 15 Mbuna in a 55 gallon. What kind of cichlids convict?

an ac110 would be a fine adition to your tank, there just a powerful powerfilter. with that and the canister your set.

AC stands for Aqua Clear btw:)

Get an Eheim 2217. No bypass and lasts forever!

:iagree: Perfect for a 55 !

i have a 46 gallon bowfront with 8: 2-5 inch africans, 3: younger africans around 1.5 inch, 4: clownloachs, and 2 bristlenose plecos. theyve killed all the dithers but i am getting 5 giant danios soon. So that will be 22 fish in a 46 gallon tank. For filtration i am using a fluval 405 canister, a marineland biowheel rated for 75 gallons and a marineland biowheel rated for 50 gallons.

Don't worry i will getting a bigger tank within then next month or so hopefully near the end of july. My water parameters are perfect and always consistant with 2x 20% water changes a week, or a 30% once a week. Or a 55 with a canister alrdy on it, id def get an ac110. Ill be getting 2 for my big tank along with a fx5 i think.
