What are the best filters for outdoor ponds? This one is about 10' x 4', and 2' deep at it's deepest. It has turtles now, but will have fish aswell soon.

Stocking densitity will help.

Anything can be considered a good filter. Many options from bog, bio-falls/tower, vortex, bead. With turtles and fish, a good mechanical/bio filter with plenty of plants should do. At appox. 600 gals. stay away from Koi. They will test any filter will waste and turbidity issues.

No carp. They are noxious here, my mate don't want to keep them anyway.

We don't know definant stocking yet, but it won't be overstocked at all.

I was thinking of one of those filters that is like an above 'tank' filter, with a pump taking water to the box with heaps of mechanical and bio filtration.

The filter is only needed really to get the solids and murky water out.

my diy filter (flower pot with media) sits on, and distributes water over a rock/waterfall
It seems to work pretty well and it was CHEAP!
