Hey everyone,

I've been out of the hobby for a few years now and recently found out that Jeff Rapps is no longer selling fish. This is very unfortunate for us consumers, and for me particularly as I'm looking to get back into the hobby in the next few months.

So, where is everyone buying their monsters these days? Jeff was one of the best and sold some very high quality fish, has anyone tried to fill that void? If so, please point me in their direction.

Thanks,

Unfortunately, given the size of the shoes, no one has really stepped up to fill the void.

You’ll hear people say cichlids of the America’s- but he mostly does CA cichlids and a few SA-
No cool oddballs, ancients or characins, no catfish, no plecos.

Wes Wong, fugupuff, rare fish whatever name you know him by has a spread of fish but much smaller operation.

Predatory fins sells all those fish that no one should be selling

Aquaimports gets fish from mile Tucc and has a good spread but in reality no one comes close to Rapps and there is a noticeable gap.

That is what I had figured when I was looking through the vendor list and some other resources online. I hope that someone (or several others) attempts to fill that void, but who knows where the market is these days. It doesn't seem as if the hobby is as popular was it was 10 years ago, which may keep some vendors from attempting to recreate that level of quality if the level of return on that investment isn't that great.

Make sure you read reviews online for azgardens. There’s a reason they have a lot of 1-star ratings.

Disclaimer, I just linked them because they sell cichlids. No experience with them. I've only ever bought fish online from Rapps or Aquabid.

Agree with CrazyPhishMan. Not that there aren't other quality vendors out there, there are, but the only one in the US that approaches the overall diversity of fish Jeff had is Wetspot. Even at that, Jeff was superior in importing from diverse locations, identifying point of origin, describing the characteristics of the population from said location, etc. And for me, he's on the same coast, not over 2000 miles away.
