I have a 180 gallon tank and I don’t like to keep the same fish forever, can’t afford multiple tanks, what are some suggestions for fish I can grow out and trade in when I’m ready for a change?maybe slow growers? A group of individual species fish(one of each) to avoid con specific and breeding aggression? Might I do bichir, green terror, clown loach, flower horn, exotic plecos, silver dollars, discus(or any combination of these or other)

I'm going to say that I highly don't reccomend going down this path. It is a very stressful and money wasting path, trust me, I've been down it. Instead of trying your hand at a hundred different fish, perhaps consider doing extensive research on various species that can live in that size tank until you find a fish that speaks to you. There are a ton of fish to choose from.

I agree with the bot ^. :)

Don't worry about keeping them "forever"; it never works out that way. Whatever you get, you can always trade or sell them later if you must, but at least make your selection based upon what appeals to you now, rather than what might appeal to somebody else at some future point.

All good advice above.

If you have just one tank use it the way you get the most enjoyment from. The fastest way to kill your hobbies and passions is to turn them into jobs. I have a 30+ tank fish room plus multiple large display tanks throughout the house and I can’t tell you many times I’ve wanted to quit the hobby as it just becomes work without the rewards.

Sounds like me when I was a teenager. Now I add a bulkhead for draining and supply line for refilling to each tank to ease the maintenance and keep it from becoming like tedious work. And I don't want a third party coming in to maintain my tanks, that would really kill my enjoyment of the hobby.

Thanks for input everyone. Anybody know a larger cichlid species I could do a group or colony without them killing each other? I’ve seen this done with veijas I think

Depending on your tank size Frontosa grow large-ish and do well in groups also. My favorite are blue Zaire variants like MOBA, Kitumba, Mikula, and ikola, but they are expensive to buy as adults, and if you buy fry, grow slowly and don’t reach sexual maturity for 3+yrs
