Here&There
Just got my first dat (microlepis-pics later). He is almost 2" long. What should I try to feed him? I have read conflicting reports about beefheart and other foods, so who has a tried-and-true diet for juvenile dats? I would prefer to avoid too many feeders (but will they eat ghostshrimp?).

Also, how fast can I expect him to grow? I know that they are kinda slow growers. Thanks for help.

Glad to hear that from someone that has done it. Read that pellets (& flake) is almost never taken. Massivore seems to be manna from heaven. Thanks.

The thing that I did was when it was feeding time and they would all be waiting at the glass for the food I'd throw in the pellets first. Some would take them and some wouldn't. Then I'd wait another 36 hours before feeding again. I also did that with my bigger IT's also and it worked, with them I also coated the pellets with shrimp too.

So how often should I feed a 2" IT? [IT being the D. microlepis? Sorry, new to dats.]

I feed mine once a day for 3 days and then have an off day.
But it depends on what you want to accomplish. Some people feed theirs twice a day and some three times. The more you feed the more you have to do water changes. They will still grow quickly with once a day feedings.
I always throw the pellets in first so the ones that aren't eating the pellets have the chance to get them(which is my NGT and catfish), then I stuff shrimp or talapia with pellets for the rest(1/2" piece stuffedt with a half pellet).

Little tigers can eat what ever the big tigers eat, just cut it up into small bite size pieces.

So: hikari carnivore or broken massivore
And/ or prawns, muscle, whitebait, lancefish, scallops : just cut into small pieces.

Feed bloodworm only and they will grow slow in comparison.
