Can anyone recommend the best biomedia for the price. On amazon Tom ceramic rings are cheapest per ounce but I know that doesn't mean it's the most efficient. What are your thoughts?

First, you have to consider that companies vary in their measurements which can quickly throw us off. Fluval and Aquaclear measure their bio media in metric ounces (weight) which is stupid since filter volumes are always measured in fluid ounces; whereas Eheim and Seachem actually measure media in fluid ounce containers (liters really, which is easily converted using the MFK calculator).

So a labeled ounce of Fluval Biomax is not the same as a labeled ounce of Seachem Matrix.

For the money, IMO, get the Matrix.

Depending on how much you need, I found 20l bucket of seachem pond matrix for 99bucks local was great. I fed up to a pound at a time and never had ammonia reading

It's for a 150 gallon so I don't need that much

The amount of media you'll need is determined by the amount/size of fish (bio load) more so than the amount of water in the system.

I have 2L of Matrix and 2L of Pond Matrix in about a 150G system with 2 large pleco, 6 growing SA, and more than a dozen dithers and small bottom feeders. Even my nitrates are at zero.

As far as pure biomedia I'm looking for about 2l with my stock. I also use plenty of sponges and spongies which add to bio filtration as well. Thinking about just doing a sump. The cost for the materials and just using spongies will be about the same if not cheaper than the thirty bucks ill be spending on ceramic media.
