I currently have two 5'' RBP in a 55gal. I am looking to get a few more, probably 2-3 of close to the same size whenever I can find them. What is the best way to intorduce the new P's in with the old ones? I have had the two current ones for over 3 years. I started with 7 and now have 2 left. TIA

It's nice to hear/read about a keeper who has raised two reds in the same tank for so long...I'd suggest leaving the tank this way and not disturb the peace...If you must add 2-3, I'd suggest upgrading to a 100g...Same sized fish, and also double up(or more) on the filtration..."Basic rule" is 20g for pygos...

What are Pygos? As far as filtration, I am using a 120 gal filter on the 55.

New to the site and the terms that you guys use. Like I said I have had my P's for a little over 3 years now.

  1. Nattereri/ternetzi, both the same fish but from a differant area/country
  2. Caribe
  3. Piraya
Hope that clears things up for you.

I woudl take the 2 you already have in the tank, out of teh tank and put all 5 of them in a tub of some sort, then re-arrange the tank to clear any terretories of the first 2 and then introduce all 5 at teh same time. That has always worked for me. Good Luck

Thats the only thing I can think of.
