Best freshwater plant to help keep nitrates down?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Standard lighting? Water wisteria, water sprite, java fern, java moss, hornwort, merino moss balls, and duckweed are the ones that come to mind right off.

most time i hear in monsterfishkeeper they do call Pothos plants, but i cant find in the south africa ;/

try some Brazilian Pennywort. easy to grow in any light. you can plant it or use it as a floating plant. I have a 120 gal with 8 adult discus, 4 festivum's at 4" each, 25 lemont tetras. and 1 bn pleco about 5". pennywort is the only plant and my nitrates are at 5ppm with 50% wc every 5 days. it's also one of the cheapest plants to buy.

You probably know this already, but pothos aren't sold at the LFS, but usually in the garden section of the box stores. It really just a house plant. I have some stuck in my tank also trying to get the nitrates down.
