yellow and black parrot fish and a jack dempsey. they swim all over the tank together. they locked lips for a few minutes when i first put the parrot in the tank, and now they are best friends.

cool beans . . . they look young; how big are they? and what size tank?

both about 3" it's a 29 gallon tank. i've only had the parrot for a few days. i talked the pet store down from $22.98 for him to $11.98!! they've had him for about 2 months and nobody bought him so i made the offer and they took it...it's a chain store too...Pet Supplies Plus. the dempsey i got at walmart of all places about 4 months ago...he's doubled in size since and actually he belongs to my roommate who doesn't have a tank to put him at the moment. it think i'm just gonna buy him from my roommate.

Just FYI those black marks on your parrot fish are bruises. Nothing to be really be concerned about. Comes with the territory.

i don't think they are bruises. i actually think they are markings on him. they've been on him from the day the store got him. and i don't think the tail would be bruised, but i'm no expert so please let me know if i'm wrong. i'm gonna put them in a 75 when i move in about a year and a half. i currently have a 55 in my bedroom that has small breed fish in it that i could probably do a swap if they get too big for the 29.

i really don't want them to grow too fast though so that's why they are still in the 29.

OK, but they're gonna grow whether you want 'em to or not; IMO, you're better off planning for that growth than trying to stunt them . . . you might be using that 55G sooner than you think :)

yeah, that's kinda what i was thinking. i'm just really worried about the PH shift. the 29 is at 7.8 and the 55 is at 7.0. i dunno, we'll see i guess. i just dropped 3 really nice pieces of slate in the 55. the snails and pleco seem to be loving it!! so i just don't know. maybe i'll trade up...lol. get rid of the 29 and go for another 55 or something. it's just that i live in a mobile home for now and don't know if anywhere else in this place can support a 55 other than where i currently have mine.
