got new baby dimpsys, started wiggling yesterday morning now they have moved out into the gravel but still not free swimming. the question is what is the best food for them and how much / often?

i am a fan of freshly hatched brinshrimp and pulverized flake food. Thats usually what i feed my fry.

are new born jack dimpsys large enough to eat brinshrimp? ive been giving them crushed flake food about 3 times per day but im not really sure if thats enough.

If you want, Hikari make an excellent fry food called First Bites. It comes in a little, green, resealable pouch. I've used it often.

You can find it at most LFS' and large chains, like Petsmart. You should feed fry 3-5 times daily. You only need a small pinch for really small fry.

I pulverize pellets, peas and flakes, and shoot small amounts with a pipette (or a turkey baster) right into the school as many times a day as possible.

Sweet! A visual "how to"!

peas? like from safeway? i wouldnt have thought of that. does your "smootie" work for new born fry, as of this morning they where all still wiggling around the bottom of the tank. how long till they start free swimming?

It usually only takes 2-3 days to go from wiggler to free swimming fry.
