Best Gar Tankmate(s)

im looking for a nice tankmate for my gar. hes in a 150g so anything that would work in that size tank. im thinking a nice cichlid of some sort, or even a nice catfish. anything that will work in this tank and will not pick on him or be picked on. any ideas help! thanks guys

I keep my FL Gars with Cichlids (Oscars, GTs, Jaguars) and have not had any issues for over a year. However, this combination is not recommended.

If I am correct, the best tank-mates for FL (and related) Gars are Bichirs and similar (relatively non aggressive) bottom dwellers. (Lungfish would be the other option.)

we keep them at our school and they are starting to overrun every tank lol. we have like 2,000!

Jags are still generally very aggressive fish that should not be mixed with Gar.

Appropriately sized polypterus seem to work just fine.

Australian lungfish too, but they are more rare.

I've found that the best combination with gar is more gar.
