My new pictus catfish have ich not suprised they came from petco. So I have been getting mixed info some say salt is best others say salt is no good for scaleless fish. I'm adding formalin right now they are fine with that but the formalin alone is not doing a good enough Job it's just keeping them undercontrol. No spots are showing up but they are flashing/rubbing more. I have treated ich many times but never on pictus cats.

I read that Rid-ich is safe but I hate malachite green. I have always used coppersafe and it works great but I read it's not ok for scaleless fish. Would salt be good enough?

What's the best ich treatment for the pictus cats?

none. ich meds usually kill scaleless fish. 2 tbs aquarium salt per 5g and ^temp to 85* for 21 days

High temps add more stress on these fish. I never bring the temp over 77F when treating for ich. I have never lost a fish to ich or its treatment yet. I have never had to deal with scaleless fish before I did treat cory cats just fine.

I'm thinking if I keep the copper at 1.0 to 1.5 ppm it would be fine on the Catfish. I have a copper test kit. anyone ever try this? Lots of sites say it is safe.

I've used malachite green ich-meds before in half-doses for my pictus and loaches. Never lost a fish. Think it was rid-ich or quick-cure...

Thanks I read that rid ich is safe because it is Zinc free.

ive used the salt method with scaleless fish (had bgk in the tank and probably pictus as well but cant remember if this was when i had them or when i had given them to another member) before with no problems, just raised temp to 85, and added 1tsp per gallon first day and another tsp per gallon the second day and left tank alone for two weeks

Well I have some coppersafe the roads are not so good so I can't get any differant treatment. After lots of reasearch I desided to give it a go. I have used coppersafe before and it worked great I have a copper test kit so I made sure it was at only 1.4 ppm that's a low does but still effective. All fish seem fine like nothing has been added. Catfish are still active and happy.
