What is the best K rating to use over a GT tank to fully show off their color?

Especially gold saums.

Right now I'm using a 50/50 bulb that I picked up today... it looks okay, but the other unknown K rating bulb I have that's sort of purple in color, really brings out the orange in my GT's tails.

So I guess I'm going to use both, but what spectrum of lighting do you use to max the blues and oranges?

Thnx in advance. :)

The coralife colormax lamps really hi-lite fish colors nicely(my silver aro in my avatar, good example). I am not posative but I believe the degrees kelvin rating on them is 5000k. I am actually going to relamp all my powercompacts with the 50/50 6700k/colormax lamps that I've been hearing about, but have yet to see.

I bought a light fixture today... it's a JEBO 2x40w NO fixture.

It was expensive ($130! lol) but I don't mind because the store I bought it from is my favorite... they always have semi rare fish for great prices. I try to 'give back' once in a while.

Anyways, it came with a white bulb of unknown K rating that might be defective? It looks like there's wavy lightening inside of it?? Kind of like those cold cathodes for autos or pc towers.

The other is pink which I believe is the color max bulb.

So right now I'm using the white uh, lightening bulb, the colormax and the 50/50 I also bought today.

So far it looks great. My tank is now bright enough that taking good pictures will be muuuuuch easier.

I can see that one of my GT's is better quality than I thought. It has redish colored 'temples' and yellow in it's tail and towards the back of the dorsal fin (which is a trait in good quality GT's).

I'm satisfied :D

Go to 10k bulbs. The color is definitely more white than yellow however the colors on the fish will phosphorescence much more. try these color lamps when you replace bulbs.

IME 10k bulbs are more blue than white. The 50/50 I'm using looks very similar to the 10k PC's I have, but I haven't had them next to each other or anything.

I use 10k bulbs. I find only a very, very slight hint of blue. Otherwise, it's a pure white light and will show off BLUES/GREENS the best. You won't be dissappointed.

Here's a shot using 10K with no camera flash of my umbee:
