I have a 60g tank full of baby IT datnoids. I've read in other forums that they prefer subdued lighting so I don't have a regular tank light for them. I just have a nearby lamp that gives some very low light to my tank.

Is that a bad idea? Would it be better to have regular light fixture over it? If so, what type of lighting would you recommend for baby dats?

Thanks for your help.

If u don't put a real tank light in, they'll never get used to it. When there bigger and in a big tank with real lights, they'll go very unstable. IT don't so well in strong light ime.

Get them use to lights in tank. Provide Subdued lighting using a short tube which dies not stretch the length of tank. This way you'll have light and shaded spots in tank

That's great advice. Thanks Ade.
I'm going to buy a 2ft long light fixture for my dats using a regular stock bulb and it should give enough light with some shaded spots too. Thanks!

I bought one of those fluorescent bulb plastic protector and spray painted it. I Left about 12'' in the middle unpainted and the outer portions were painted enough to let dim light through. It was that or buy a smaller fixture. I have a 48'' light fixture BTW.
