What do you guys think is the best lighting for Cichla? I know you can spend alot for lighting. I have 2 4ft T8 light fixtures for my 6 foot tank. I want better light and would like to have just 1 6ft fixture so the top of my tank looks clean. I dont really want to spend a ton but do want something that will make the fish look good. Ideas?

mate im not sure on the wattage of my lights but i have 2 x T5 lights and i think their great, see my album to see how they look.

My favorite is PennPlax Aquarilux. They are not terribly bright but are excellent at enhancing colors. Especially reds, oranges and yellows. If you are looking for something a bit brighter Hagen Power Glo is a great bulb. I actually use a combination of the two.

The all time best, hands down, is natural sunlight. A fish kept out in the sun will practically glow. I'm moving my kelberi outside for the summer. Wait until about July when I post some pics. Your eyes may explode... :headbang2

not to hijack your thread but, would a coralife pro 72" fixture be too much lighting for cichla? I'm trying to decide if I want to sell the fixture or not.

It's got 3x150W Metal Halides, 4x96 PC, and a few LEDs. I know its more for reef tanks but I got it at such a killer deal I don't really want to let it go. If it's too much for cichla then I'm going to sell it.

It's not too much for cichla, ado, but I'm not sure the power bill would justify it's use when you can almost get the same effect with much cheaper bulbs and a much lower power bill.

Very true! Good looking out!:)

Home Depot now sells t-5 lights. You can buy two 3 foot lights for 60.00. I couldn't believe it. They are 2 bulb fixtures and I have just hung them on my 180. It is totally sick! The light is amazing. You can put whatever bulbs you want. Check it out!
