The redder color spectrum (low K rating) helps plants flower, the bluer color spectrum (high K rating) helps plants grow. Thus a light from the redder spectrum, also referred to as 'warm' light with a low K rating. Keep in mind I am not saying a red colored bulb. I'm speaking in regards to the wave spectrum. These lights are not crisp white lights (that I like), they are the appear duller, yellower to the naked eye.
Also, old school incandescent lights are much worse for growing plants, and therefore algae, than fluorescent or LED.
