Best Lighting?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use daylight florecent tubes in all of our tanks (about 6.00 each for 48") but we are in the process of experimenting with LED systems due to the lower operating costs and lower temperiture.

Where can I get these? Do you have any algae growth?
Thanks

almost any home supply place should have the bulbs and the fixtures. if you get the ones designed as shop lights they come pre wired with a cord and switch although all of ours are on timers. We have full hoods on most of our tanks so installing them is simple. The LED systems we're looking into are bieng ordered on line. My wife wants blue moon lights in a couple of the tanks and we're trying the white ones out as main lights. they cost a lot less to run in the long term the only question will be how many I'll need to light the tank.

I've tried regular flors and did'nt like the fish color. I use a bulb from aqua-glo thats rated ideal for freshwater and planted. Fish looked best after expermentation and after a year I do need to scrub a small area. But then again the tank is in the middle of the room... no direct sunlight.

I use the 6700k daylight T8s above most of my tanks.

What is the temp. of a bulb that is pink? Also are there power compact bulbs that are pink? I am using Coralife Freshwater T5 Aqualight right now but I am getting alot of algae. One of the bulbs is pink and the other one is 6700K. I like the color of the light and light output is bright but I want to change them out to something that won't cause algae. Do you think if I change out the 6700K to another pink bulb it will help with the algae?
Thanks
Brad

Not to be :topic: but is the tank chemistry good, algae thrive in high phosphate and excess food.

:iagree: with rallysman on the temp range.

Oh, what kind of fish are we trying to see :D.
