Hi

I am putting together a new world chiclid tank and just had a thought.

What do you all think are:
1) the best looking and

2) the least commonly displayed new world chiclids.

This ought to be good

Thanks

depending on tank size i would go for the festea which are just awesome, or id go for the lyonsi because they are hard to get and look like a nicer looking trimac

LOL. Just get what you like. Some of the really rare stuff is pretty ugly. There's not many species you can't order right now and have shipped to your house by the end of the week so I don't know how rare you're going for...

Even the rare stuff comes in cycles. If I remember correctly beani were once so common it was like a convict... then they disappeared and became some of the most desirable fish in the hobby years later. And now they're back for a while and not as popular.

Lesson? Keep what you like, especially if you're new.

Festea are nice looking I don't think I'd consider them rare. I do agree you should keep what you like and don't worry abouth the flavor of the month.

Aequidens diadema. I think they are absolutely beautiful. Their coloration is subtle but elegant. Pictures don't really capture some of the coloration in the scales. I love the Acara over all shape.

I searched for one a while back. Looked around for about 3 months. Gave up for 6mo/a year or so. Then I happened upon one, about 5" long, at the one store I generally won't spend money at, but I was there with a friend. Brought it home. Had a nice 30g Qtank for him. Thought I had it covered completely, but sometime in the middle of the night he jumped on me. Found him about 8 feet away from the tank. It's been about 8 years (I'm pretty sure was when my oldest son was a baby), and I have yet to see another. I see metae and patricki's that are similar, but just not the same for me.

I've been on the hunt again for them for the last few months to no avail.
