I'm looking for a large pleco to go in my display tank with my mpimbwe frontosa. I'm actually thinking about having a couple large rare uncommon yet beautiful plecos to mix up the tank as it is currently a species only tank.

What do you all think?

they both prefer different water chemistry, but I had my F1 kigomas with some cool plecs: L200, L018, L191 in a neutral ph, slightly soft water and all is still well some 5 years later. fronts breed and all...

probably not recommended to keep those plecs in harder water or higher ph which the fronts seem to like. IMO clean stable water is best for trying to mix fish with different preferences.

I would not if you maintain your tank as liquid rock...but if you just use what is coming out of the tap water than any number of medium to large plecos would work...

I like sunshine myself.

don't sell all the "commons" short, they are cheap, readily available, get along with most fish but don't back down from aggressive tankmates, and sometimes personality is better than looks if you actually like to see your fish. plus, some don't look so bad either.

What ever you like and I agree with the others about the hard water not going well with plecos.
