So, I purchased a TMC V² Bio Fluidized Sand Bed Filter # 1500 recently, and I don't like the idea of using it with an in tank pump. It's an eye sore to me and takes up room. So my plan is using a canister filter and hooking it up to the FSB filter. but I need a canister that pumps no less than 500 GPH and I will only be using it for mechanical filtration. No bio at all, just coarse pads/fine pads and filter floss. Whats the best canister out there than can get the job done? I was thinking eheim 2217 or Rena XP4 but am not sure its powerful enough to get my FSB filter going . Lmk guys

The Odyssea CFS700 is one of my favorite for mainly the purpose of mechanical. Its designed like an FX, using all sponges and with the pump is on the bottom, but it only cost about $90. This thing is a beast and even has a smart shut off when water level is too low inside the canisters (or too much resistance due to clogged intake). My only cripes with unit is the cheap hose and the o-rings on the hose-to-canister connector. Both of which are cheap and quick fix.

Is this the biggest model of this filter?

No, they have bigger models, which I have no experience with, but I've also heard that they don't do as well as the 500 or 700.....of which I own both....and love 'em!

Go to Aquatraders.com to see the different models.

Im just worried that with the 700 model I won't have enough flow to get my FSB filter moving, is it a good flow?

Really good flow. You should be able to increase it a bit more by not using 1 or 2 of the sponges (there are 3)

Only reason I asked is because this company has a much bigger model the Odyssea CFS 14i , it's like a wet/dry on a canister its odd looking but I saw a video of it and looks pretty neat. It's rated 1400 GPH, I figure after media is it should be around 850-1000 at most. Here is a video of the larger version of it

Like I already said, I have no personal experience with the 2 larger models. There's an MFK member Paulbearer Paulbearer (I think) who mentioned he owned one of the larger models and was not impressed with its flow rate compared to the 700 model. At only $120 for the 14i, why not just take the chance?
