Best media combination for fluval 305?

I have a 55 gallon tank with a ac300 and a new fluval 305. It comes with filter media but I was wondering if other media work better. For instance, I'm thinking about replacing the carbon with purigen since I won't have to replace it as often and I don't know what to put in the other two baskets. BTW this is my first canister filter so I'm kinda noobish.

If money is an issue Matrix is an excellent bio media, Efhi Substrate PRO is just as, if not better then matrix, but is 3-4X the cost.
 
Alrite thanks for the replies. I'm probably going to go with the 2 foam pieces, then purigen, then seachem matrix. BTW how much purigen do you all think I will need for the 305?
 
i stuffed mine full of pot scubbers works perfect
